Design and Optimization of Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) for Organic Pollution

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nabavian, Alborz (Author) ; Vossoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor) ; Seif Kordi, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A Microbial fuel cell is a Bioreactor in which chemical bands are broken and their energy convert to electricity by bio-catalysts such as microorganisms and enzymes. Depletion of energy resources encouraged researchers to investigate microbial fuel cell as a power bio-resource. MFCs produce electricity or hydrogen without any net carbon emission. Nowadays, real applications of microbial fuel cells are limited because their power density level is very low (about 1000 mW/m2). Many research projects are running to modify MFCs operation and optimize its costs. The most important application of MFCs is electricity production, hydrogen production, waste water treatment and BOD5 biosensor. In this...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Mahmoudi, Morteza (Author) ; Simchi, Abdolreza (Supervisor) ; Imani, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) with proper surface coatings are increasingly being evaluated for clinical applications such as hyperthermia, drug delivery, magnetic resonance imaging, transfection, and cell/protein separation. Since the particles with various sizes exhibit different flow rates in the same environment (same capillary size), it is essential to use particles of a desirable size for targeted drug delivery and imaging. Particles of different sizes may be exposed to different viscosities and behave differently, particularly with regard to their velocities as they move through capillaries. In the present work, SPION with different size, purity, shape and...

    Abstract
Linear-dendritic ABA triblock copolymers containing poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as B block and hyperbranched poly(citric acid) (PCA) as A blocks were synthesized through polycondensation. The molecular self-assembly of synthesized PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers in water led to formation of nanoparticles and fibers in different sizes and shapes depending on the time and size of PCA blocks. Ten days after dissolving PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers in water, the size of fibers had reached several millimeters. Mixing a water solution of fluorescein as a small guest molecule and PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers led to the encapsulation of fluorescein by products of molecular self-assembly. To investigate their potential...
