It is made of copper reso-nators and a Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate, which is one of the most favorable deformable substrates due to its hyperelastic behavior. The proposed HSS is fabricated via an original cost-effective technique and the multiphysics functionalities are captured in both experimental tests and numerical...

Study on optimized piled-raft foundations (PRF) performance with connected and non-connected piles- three case histories

    , Article International Journal of Civil Engineering ; Volume 10, Issue 2 , 2012 , Pages 100-111 ; 17350522 (ISSN) Eslami, A ; Veiskarami, M ; Eslami, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
It has been realized that the raft (mat) foundations are capable of bearing very large loads when they are assisted with a pile group. The contribution of both raft and piles to carry the surcharge loads is taken into account, considering the stiffness and strength of involved elements in the system, i.e. piles, raft and surrounding soil. The piles are usually required not to ensure the overall stability of the foundation but to act as settlement reducers. There is an alternative design in which, the piles are nonconnected from the raft to reduce the settlement, which are then known to be "settlement reducer non-connected piles" to increase the system stiffness. In this paper, two and three...

    , Article Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization ; Volume 38, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 205-214 ; 1615147X (ISSN) Tavakoli, R ; Davami, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
The optimal design of a casting feeding system is considered. The riser topology is systematically modified to minimize the riser volume, while simultaneously ensuring that no defect appears in the product. In this approach, we combine finite-difference analysis of the solidification process with evolutionary topology optimization to systematically improve the feeding system design. The outstanding features of the presented method are: its efficiency, ease of implementation and simplifying definition of the initial design. The efficiency and capability of the presented method are supported by illustrative examples. © 2008 Springer-Verlag

    Taylor and Francis Ltd  2019
    Abstract
In additive manufacturing processes, the part build orientation (PBO) is one of the most important factors that can affect the characteristics of the quality product such as the amount of support structure and the surface roughness. In most previous methods, the optimal PBO cannot be determined with high precision and accuracy in 3D space. In this paper, to find the precise and accurate optimal PBO with a desired angular accuracy, a new Taguchi-based method, called the Zooming-Taguchi method, is proposed. The proposed simulation-based method can precisely find the optimal PBO in absence of the noise effects. In order to find the optimal PBO with the desired angular resolution, the zooming...

    Abstract
In this thesis a 2-3PRS hybrid mechanism is presented. This manipulator is consisted of two serially connected parallel 3PRS mechanisms, each mechanism has three degrees of freedom, so that the overall degrees of freedom of the manipulator are six. The relations for position, velocity and acceleration of the mechanism in both forward and inverese kinematics are derived and then singular points are determined. After that, the inverse dynamic equations for one of the 3PRS mechanisms are derived through the Newton-Euler and aslo Lagrange approach and the results are verified. Then the derived Newton-Euler equations are implemented for inverse and forward dynamics of the hybrid manipulator. The...

    Abstract
Creating synchronous conditions of precision and speed in rotating systems is a requirement for the design of these systems. The requirement to create these conditions is essential in various applications, such as machine tools and computer equipment. One of the main sources of error in the motion of the high speed spindles is the occurrence of non-repetitive runouts. The presence of non-repetitive runouts at high speeds greatly affects the accuracy of the rotating motion of rotating systems and reducing its effects is always considered in the design of high speed rotary systems. Usually, one of the most important factors in the occurrence of non-repetitive runouts is related to spindle...

Optimum Mechanical Joint Design for a Composite Laminate to a Metal Part

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nasrollahi Fekejvar, Majid (Author) ; Kouchakzadeh, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this investigation, the behavior of pin loaded composite plates is studied numerically. A failure prediction model is used to predict the ultimate strength considering three different mechanisms of failure: bearing, shearout and net tension. The model consists of two major parts: stress analysis and failure analysis. The main difference between this investigation and others is considering more realistic assumptions in modeling of the problem. As an example, we consider nonlinear behavior in the shear stress/ shear strain relationship of each unidirectional ply and use this model in optimization problem to reach maximum strength. The results are compared with experimental results available...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gholamzadeh, Reza (Author) ; Salarie, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recently, parametric excitation has been proposed and experimentally proven to provide micro gyroscopes with robustness to parameter variations and enhancement of sensitivity. harmonic excitation gyroscopes are very sensitive to response of a resonance at the resonant frequency; therefore it has to be created accurately. However, parametric excitation gyroscopes are not sensitive as a result of wide bound of frequency at drive mode, accordingly it is not necessary to be formed accurately in the same way as harmonic excitation gyroscope.
The produced stress at combs have a significance effect on robustness, sensitivity and calibration curves of parametric excitation gyroscope, as a...
