    , Article ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Proceedings, 13 November 2009 through 19 November 2009 ; Volume 10, Issue PART A , 2010 , Pages 133-140 ; 9780791843833 (ISBN) Moradi, H ; Haji Hajikolaei, K ; Motamedi, M ; Alasty, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
To achieve high rate of data transfer, tape mechanisms must be able to transport the tape with a constant velocity for scanning. During this process, it is desired to make the rise time minimized without timing and data transfer errors. In this paper, three servo systems including the take-up and supply reel servos for tape tension control and capstan servo for speed control are considered. So, tape transport mechanisms can be described with a nonlinear multi-input multi-output system (MIMO). After state-space representation of the problem, feedback control is designed for tracking objective. It should be mentioned that an increase in the speed of time response of system corresponds to an...

Design of an RMPC with a time-varying terminal constraint set for tracking problem

    , Article International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control ; Volume 26, Issue 12 , 2016 , Pages 2623-2642 ; 10498923 (ISSN) Razi, M ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper presents a robust model predictive control algorithm with a time-varying terminal constraint set for systems with model uncertainty and input constraints. In this algorithm, the nonlinear system is approximated by a linear model where the approximation error is considered as an unstructured uncertainty that can be represented by a Lipschitz nonlinear function. A continuum of terminal constraint sets is constructed off-line, and robust stability is achieved on-line by using a variable control horizon. This approach significantly reduces the computational complexity. The proposed robust model predictive controller with a terminal constraint set is used in tracking set-points for...

    Abstract
This paper deals with the decentralized polynomial trajectory generation for the formation flight of a leader-follower network of quadrotors. The proposed decentralized trajectory planning method guarantees stability of the formation in missions with aggressive trajectories or low information exchange frequencies or data loss. Moreover, designed formation protocol ensures robustness of the formation against variations of the network communication topology. First, quadrotor translational dynamics is represented as a quadruple integrator by linearizing and differentiating its equations of translational motion. Then, a formation control law for a leader-follower network of the quadruple...

Robust relay beamforming against jamming attack

    , Article IEEE Communications Letters ; 2017 ; 10897798 (ISSN) Maleki Sadr, M. A ; Ahmadian Attari, M ; Amiri, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this letter, we surpass the jamming effect and also estimate the jamming channel state information by using Kalman filtering (KF) approach. Furthermore, we design a closed-form beamforming weight for maximizing the achievable rate subject to the condition that the total relays power transmission would be below a predefined threshold level, which is formulated as a Quadratically Constrained Quadratic Program (QCQP). Simulation results show efficient performance of the proposed method for different destruction powers of jammer by achieving the Cramer Rao Lower Bound (CRLB). IEEE

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics ; 2017 ; 15513203 (ISSN) Rayati, M ; Ranjbar, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
One of the main shortcomings, caused by high penetration of wind power, is intermittency of generation. For integrating high penetration of wind power, the frequency regulation and the transactive control systems are modified to be sufficiently resilient against fluctuations of wind power and malicious cyber threats. Here, a hierarchical state-space model is presented for the frequency regulation and the transactive control systems in a smart grid environment. To achieve a resilient control, a framework based on cloud computing is proposed for the communication network. Benefits and challenges of the cloud-based framework are also described in this paper. To optimize the operation of the...

    , Article 2017 25th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2017, 2 May 2017 through 4 May 2017 ; 2017 , Pages 2253-2258 ; 9781509059638 (ISBN) Abooee, A ; Adelipour, S ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper proposes a novel representation of uncertain LTI fractional order systems based on the state-space model which contains both interval and polytopic uncertainties. First, a set of linear matrix inequalities, which are sufficient conditions, are presented for analyzing the robust stability of the mentioned systems. Then, some sufficient conditions are obtained for designing a feedback gain matrix to tackle the robust stabilization of the considered systems. Note that the concluded conditions of this paper are valid for fractional systems with a given constant derivative order α in 1 ≤ α < 2 and also, can be employed conservatively for α in 0 < α < 1. Finally, through two numerical...

Efficient algorithms for online tracking of set points in robust model predictive control

    , Article International Journal of Systems Science ; Volume 48, Issue 8 , 2017 , Pages 1635-1645 ; 00207721 (ISSN) Razi, M ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper presents some computationally efficient algorithms for online tracking of set points in robust model predictive control context subject to state and input constraints. The nonlinear systems are represented by a linear model along with an additive nonlinear term which is locally Lipschitz. As an unstructured uncertainty, this term is replaced in the robust stability constraint by its Lipschitz coefficient. A scheduled control technique is employed to transfer the system to desired set points, given online, by designing local robust model predictive controllers. This scheme includes estimating the regions of feasibility and stability of the related equilibriums and online switching...

For this purpose, another adaptation law is defined for the variation of the SMC gain. The proposed scheme is augmented with an admittance control method to provide the patient with compliance during interaction with the rehabilitation robot. The stability of the proposed controller and the...

    Abstract
A non-linear robust adaptive bilateral impedance controller is proposed to provide the absolute stability of multi-DOF teleoperation systems with communication delays, in addition to the force and position tracking performance. The proposed controller realises two desired (or reference) impedance models for the master and slave robots using a new non-linear robust version of the model reference adaptive control scheme. Using the absolute stability criterion, the robustness condition of the teleoperation system against communication delays is obtained, resulting in suitable adjustments of parameter values in the desired impedance models. In addition, using the Lyapunov stability theorem, the...

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2018
    Abstract
This paper presents a new robust control strategy for islanded operation of a microgrid consisting of several distributed generation (DG) units with arbitrary topology. Each DG unit is connected to its local load through a voltage-source converter (VSC), a series RL filter and a step-up transformer. The multi-DG microgrid with arbitrary connectivity graph is modeled as a linear time-invariant (LTI) system subject to a parametric, norm-bounded uncertain block. By utilizing the developed model for multi-DG microgrids, a systematic approach for the design of structured dynamic output feedback control is proposed. A convex optimization problem is developed which yields a low-order dynamic...

    Abstract
In this paper, a semi-blind multiplicative watermarking approach for audio and speech signals has been presented. At the receiver end, the optimal Maximum Likelihood (ML) detector aided by the channel side information for Gaussian and Laplacian signals in noisy environment is designed and implemented. The performance of the proposed scheme is analytically calculated and verified by simulation. Then, we adapt the proposed scheme to speech and audio signals. To improve robustness, the algorithm is applied to low frequency components of the host signal. Besides, the power of the watermark is controlled elegantly to have inaudibility using Perceptual Evaluation of Audio Quality (PEAQ) and...

    Abstract
Although multivariate statistical process control has been receiving a well-deserved attention in the literature, little work has been done to deal with multi-attribute processes. While by the NORTA algorithm one can generate an arbitrary multi-dimensional random vector by transforming a multi-dimensional standard normal vector, in this article, using inverse transformation method, we initially transform a multi-attribute random vector so that the marginal probability distributions associated with the transformed random variables are approximately normal. Then, we estimate the covariance matrix of the transformed vector via simulation. Finally, we apply the well-known T2 control chart to the...

    Abstract
In this paper, in order to find an adequate method of monitoring the mean vector and covariance matrix of a production process simultaneously, first, some available univariate control methods were reviewed and evaluated. Then, the maximum exponentially weighted moving average method with a better potential application and good performances in terms of average time to signal (ATS) criterion was selected to be extended to the bivariate case. In the extended procedure, by proper transformation of the control parameters, the primary control space is transformed such that all control elements have the same probability distributions. In this case, only the maximum absolute value of the transformed...
