    A distribution-free tracking interval for model selection: application in the strength of brittle materials

    Abstract
    In the literature of model selection, Vuong’s test and Akaike information criterion aim to find the best statistical model. Both of them are related to the expectation of the log-likelihood function of the rival models, but they are not sensitive to the small difference between rival models. The goal of this study is to develop a simple model selection approach which does not assume a true distribution for data. We have introduced a nonparametric tracking interval in the context of model selection. We have shown that this interval is compatibale with the known Vuong’s test results, but here we let the magnitude of the data enhance the performance of statistical inference. Simulation study...

    Abstract
    In this paper, the effects of different environmental parameters on power probability density function (PDF) curve and annual energy production of a wind turbine are studied. In each step one of these parameters is changed, and in each case, Wind turbine and wind speed is simulated and produced power has been calculated in every hours of one year. At last it was concluded that altitude above sea level (that affects the air density) and the k factor of weibull distribution have more important effects on wind turbine produced power than the others. © 2008 IEEE

    Abstract
    While Afghanistan's power sector is almost completely dependent on fossil fuels, it still cannot meet the rising power demand of this country. Deploying a combination of renewable energy systems with hydrogen production as the excess energy storage mechanism could be a sustainable long-term approach for addressing some of the energy problems of Afghanistan.     Effects of hydrogen and oxides on tensile properties of Al-Si-Mg cast alloys

    Abstract
    Gas porosities and entrapped double oxide film (hereafter: oxides) are known to be the most detrimental defects in cast Al-Si-Mg alloys. This study investigated the effects of dissolved hydrogen (hereafter: H) and oxides on reproducibility of tensile properties in Al-7Si-0.35 Mg alloys. Also the effects of H and oxides content on the morphology of defects were studied. Four different casting conditions (low oxide-low H, low oxide-high H, high oxide-low H, high oxide-high H) were tested using tensile test bars that were cast in a metallic mold.     The Burr III distribution properly approximates many familiar distributions such as Normal, Lognormal, Gamma, Weibull, and Exponential distributions.     This paper presents a multi-model robust control (MMRC) design for an offshore variable speed wind turbine with tension leg platform. The proposed control scheme covers the model uncertainty in the above rated wind speed, and it provides a reliable control for power regulation while minimizing the mechanical loads on the wind turbine structure.
