  7. Abstract:
  8. In this thesis, with the help of a literature review in philosophy of technology including the writings of analytical philosophers, Marcuse, Feenberg & Heidegger & with the help of a definition of Religion provided by Roy Clouser & supplementing it with the additional condition of Non-naturalism, we have tried to develop an all-inclusive theory about the implications of religious beliefs for encountering and coming to a right relation with Technology and its essence in its different layers. For this, after we have obtained in the first chapter, the system of terms and concepts needed for a more precise discussion, from a literature review of the analytical philosophy of technology, in the second chapter in the framework of a formulation that we have illustrated of Technological Determinism, we have analysed and compared the views of different philosophers of technology about the nature of Technology. Also then with the help of the viewpoints just mentioned & with an analysis we have taken of the concept of “efficiency”, we have proven value-ladenness of technical artefacts and also pointed out some of its aspects. In the last chapter, with an explanation of Clouser’s definition of Religion and some illustrations about Naturalism and with the use of the result of the previous chapter –that is the value-ladenness of technical artefacts– we have shown that in respect to the different value rationalities of various religions, Technology can be assessed in different manners and therefore even alternative technologies can be developed in direction of each of different value systems. In the last section, after reviewing and explaining Martin Heidegger’s later views about the essence of Technology, we have illustrated in different layers, the alternatives of Technology and its analogous modern way of living, in the life of someone holding religious beliefs, and specified the relations of those alternatives to one another
