Poly(citric acid)-block-poly(ethylene glycol) copolymers-new biocompatible hybrid materials for nanomedicine

    , Article Nanomedicine: Nanotechnology, Biology, and Medicine ; Volume 6, Issue 4 , Aug , 2010 , Pages 556-562 ; 15499634 (ISSN) Tavakoli Naeini, A ; Adeli, M ; Vossoughi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Linear-dendritic ABA triblock copolymers containing poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as B block and hyperbranched poly(citric acid) (PCA) as A blocks were synthesized through polycondensation. The molecular self-assembly of synthesized PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers in water led to formation of nanoparticles and fibers in different sizes and shapes depending on the time and size of PCA blocks. Ten days after dissolving PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers in water, the size of fibers had reached several millimeters. Mixing a water solution of fluorescein as a small guest molecule and PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers led to the encapsulation of fluorescein by products of molecular self-assembly. To investigate their potential...

    , Article ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces ; Volume 9, Issue 33 , 2017 , Pages 27596-27606 ; 19448244 (ISSN) Masudy Panah, S ; Siavash Moakhar, R ; Chua, C. S ; Kushwaha, A ; Dalapati, G. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Enhancing stability against photocorrosion and improving photocurrent response are the main challenges toward the development of cupric oxide (CuO) based photocathodes for solar-driven hydrogen production. In this paper, stable and efficient CuO-photocathodes have been developed using in situ materials engineering and through gold-palladium (Au-Pd) nanoparticles deposition on the CuO surface. The CuO photocathode exhibits a photocurrent generation of ∼3 mA/cm2 at 0 V v/s RHE. Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) analysis and X-ray spectroscopy (XPS) confirm the formation of oxygen-rich (O-rich) CuO film which demonstrates a highly stable photocathode with retained...

    Abstract
Bacterial transport parameters play a fundamental role in microbial population dynamics, biofilm formation and bacteria dispersion. In this study, the novel model was extended based on the capability of microsized microbial fuel cells (MFCs) as amperometric biosensors to predict the cells' chemotactic and bioelectrochemical properties. The model prediction results coincide with the experimental data of Shewanella oneidensis and chemotaxis mutant of P. aeruginosa bdlA and pilT strains, indicating the complementary role of numerical predictions for bioscreening applications of microsized MFCs. Considering the general mechanisms for electron transfer, substrate biodegradation, microbial growth...

    , Article Acta Biomaterialia ; Volume 76 , 2018 , Pages 239-256 ; 17427061 (ISSN) Behroozi, F ; Abdkhodaie, M. J ; Sadeghi Abandansari, H ; Satarian, L ; Molazem, M ; Al Jamal, K. T ; Baharvand, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Acta Materialia Inc  2018
    Abstract
The oxidation-reduction (redox)–responsive micelle system is based on a diselenide-containing triblock copolymer, poly(ε-caprolactone)-bis(diselenide-methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)/poly(ethylene glycol)-folate) [PCL-(SeSe-mPEG/PEG-FA)2]. This has helped in the development of tumor-targeted delivery for hydrophobic anticancer drugs. The diselenide bond, as a redox-sensitive linkage, was designed in such a manner that it is located at the hydrophilic–hydrophobic hinge to allow complete collapse of the micelle and thus efficient drug release in redox environments. The amphiphilic block copolymers self-assembled into micelles at concentrations higher than the critical micelle concentration (CMC)...

    Abstract
Arrays of ZnO nanorods were synthesized on ZnO seed layer/glass substrates by a hydrothermal method at a low temperature of 70 °C. The effect of pH > 7 of the hydrated zinc nitrate-NaOH precursor on the morphology and topography (e.g. size, surface area and roughness), the optical characteristics (e.g. optical transmission and band-gap energy), hydrophilicity and antibacterial activity of the grown ZnO nanostructure and nanorod coatings were investigated. For pH = 11.33 of the precursor (NaOH concentration of 0.10M), a fast growth of ZnO nanorods on the seed layer (length of ∼1 νm in 1.5 h) was observed. The fast growth of the ZnO nanorods resulted in a significant reduction in the optical...

    Abstract
Synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME) via methanol dehydration were investigated over various catalysts, and via direct CO hydrogenation over hybrid catalysts composed of Al-modified H-Mordenite zeolite and Cu/ZnO/ZrO 2. H-Mordenite zeolite exhibited the highest activity in dehydration of methanol. However, its selectivity toward dimethyl ether was rather low. For this reason, the H-Mordenite was modified. Modification of zeolites was performed by wet impregnation method and considered catalysts were characterized by AAS, XRD and NH3-TPD analyses. Results of catalytic tests indicated that H-Mordenite modified with 8 wt% aluminum oxide was the best catalyst for synthesis of dimethyl ether from...

Some samples were annealed at 300°C for an hour in air to study the effect of heat treatment on their gas sensitivity. Surface structural and chemical properties of the samples were characterised using Scanning...

    Abstract
Chondroitinase ABCI (cABCI) is a drug enzyme that can be used to treat spinal cord injuries. Due to low thermal stability of cABCI, this enzyme was immobilized on Fe3O4 nanoparticle to increase its thermal stability. The size and morphology, structure and magnetic property of the Fe3O4 nanoparticles were characterized by the analyses of SEM, XRD and VSM, respectively, and FTIR spectroscopy was employed to confirm the immobilization of cABCI on the surface of Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The results indicated that the optimum conditions for pH, temperature, cABCI-to-Fe3O4 mass ratio and incubation time in immobilization process were 6.5, 15 °C, 0.75 and 4.5 h, respectively, and about 0.037 mg cABCI...

    Abstract
There is limited evidence for short-term association between mortality and ambient air pollution in the Middle East and no study has evaluated exposure windows of about a month prior to death. We investigated all-cause non-accidental daily mortality and its association with fine particulate matter (PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and the Air Quality Index (AQI) from March 2011 through March 2014 in the megacity of Tehran, Iran. Generalized additive quasi-Poisson models were used within a distributed lag linear modeling framework to estimate the cumulative effects of PM2.5, NO2, and the AQI up to a lag of 45 days. We further conducted multi-pollutant models and also stratified the analyses by...
