Phase II monitoring of generalized linear profiles under different types of changes

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 28, Issue 1 E , 2021 , Pages 557-571 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Hajifar, S ; Mahlooji, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Various control charts have been proposed to monitor generalized linear pro les in Phase II. However, the robustness of the proposed methods in detecting di erent types and especially di erent directions of changes is not well-studied in the literature. In real-world applications, di erent kinds of change such as drift and multiple changes are likely to occur, which can be isotonic (increasing) or antitonic (decreasing). This paper studies the robustness of the Rao Score Test (RST) method, T2, and Multivariate Exponential Weighted Moving Average (MEWMA) in di erent types, drift and multiple, and directions of changes. The RST method also bene ts from a change-point detection approach whose...

A robust steganography algorithm based on texture similarity using Gabor filter

    , Article 5th IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology, Athens, 18 December 2005 through 21 December 2005 ; Volume 2005 , 2005 , Pages 578-582 Kermani, Z. Z ; Jamzad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
The main concern of steganography (image hiding) methods is to embed a secret image into a host image in such a way that the host should remain as similar as possible to its original version. In addition the host image should remain robust with respect to usual attacks. In this paper we present a method that tries to cover all above mentioned concerns. The secret and host images are divided into blocks of size 4 × 4. Each block in secret image is taken as a texture pattern for which the most similar block is found among the blocks of the host image. The embedding procedure is carried on by replacing these small blocks of the secret image with blocks in host image in such a way that least...

Using julian set patterns for higher robustness in correlation based watermarking methods

    , Article 5th IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology, Athens, 18 December 2005 through 21 December 2005 ; Volume 2005 , 2005 , Pages 358-362 Yaghmaee, F ; Jamzad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
Some of the most important classes of watermark detection methods in image watermarking are correlation based algorithms. In these methods usually a pseudorandom pattern is embedded in host image. Receiver can regenerate this pattern by having a key that is the seed of a random number generator. After that if the correlation between this pattern and the image that is assumed to have the watermark is higher than a predefined threshold, this means that the watermark exists and vise versa. In this paper we showed the advantage of using the Julian set patterns as a watermark, instead of commonly used pseudorandom noisy pattern. Julian set patterns can be regenerate in receiver with few...

    Abstract
Fuzzy logic has proved to be a powerful tool to represent imprecise and irregular patterns. This paper presents a novel fuzzy approach for recognizing online Persian (Farsi) handwriting which is also useful for multi-writer environments. In this approach, the representation of handwriting parameters is accomplished by fuzzy linguistic modeling. The representative features are selected to describe the shape of tokens. Fuzzy linguistic terms provide robustness against handwriting variations. The purposed method was run on a database of Persian isolated handwritten characters and achieved a relatively high recognition rate. © 2005 IEEE

    Abstract
Image-Adaptive watermarking systems exploit visual models to adapt the watermark to local properties of the host image. This leads to a watermark power enhancement, hence an improved resilience against different attacks, while keeping the mark imperceptible. Visual models consider different properties of the human visual system, such as frequency sensitivity, luminance sensitivity and contrast masking. Entropy masking is another human visual system's characteristic, which rarely has been addressed in visual models. In this paper we have utilized this masking effect to improve the robustness of Image-Adaptive watermarks while keeping their transparency. Experimental results show a significant...

    Abstract
Motion blur is one of the most common blurs that degrades images. Restoration of such images are highly dependent to estimation of motion blur parameters. Many researchers since 1976 have developed algorithms to estimate linear motion blur parameters. These algorithms are different in their performance, time complexity, precision and their robustness in noisy environments. In this paper we have presented a novel algorithm to estimate linear motion blur parameters such as direction and extend by using Radon transform to find direction and power spectrum modeling to find its extend. The most benefit of this algorithm is its robustness and precision in noisy images. This algorithm is a...

    Abstract
The ubiquity of broadband digital communications and mass storage in modern society has stimulated the widespread acceptance of digital media. However, easy access to royalty-free digital media has also resulted in a reduced perception in society of the intellectual value of digital media and has promoted unauthorised duplication practices. To detect and discourage the unauthorised duplication of media, researchers have investigated watermarking methods to embed ownership data into media. However, some authorities have expressed doubt over the efficacy of watermarking methods to protect digital media. The paper introduces a novel method to discourage unauthorised duplication of digital...

    Abstract
This paper develops methodology and technique tor the design, analysis, and impie mentation of an adaptive generalized predictive controller (AGPC) for Active Queue Management in TCP Networks. The TCP/AQM dynamic is modeled experimentally as a second-order system with a time delay where its parameters are estimated using the standard gradient algorithm. Based on this model, an AGPC is designed to gain the set-point tracking and robustness. AGPC, as a queue-based control mechanism, responds quickly to traffic changes, thus allowing for high utilization and small loss. We illustrate our results using ns-2 simulations and demonstrate the practical impact of adaptive model reference control on...

    Abstract
A novel robust image-adaptive digital watermarking algorithm using Multi-Resolution Singular value Decomposition (MR-SVD) is proposed in this paper. The proposed method strengthens the watermark based on the concept of entropy masking, while meeting the mark imperceptibility requirement. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves watermarking performance over watermarking methods in wavelet domain transform, in terms of both invisibility and robustness. © 2005 IEEE

    Abstract
A practical design method is presented which used the fuzzy logic advantages in adaptation of sliding mode control. The combined Fuzzy Adaptive Sliding Control (FASC) is designed in such a way to enhance satisfactory sliding performance and robustness with good level of chattering alleviation. The design approach is valid for a class of nonlinear uncertain MIMO systems. This control algorithm does not require the system model. A supervisory term is appended to the controller to assure the stability of fuzzy sliding mode control through Lyapunov theory. The design approach has been applied to a 2DOF twin propeler system with large uncertainty. Simulation results verified effectiveness of...

Robust D-stabilization analysis of fractional-order control systems with complex and linearly dependent coefficients

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems ; Volume 52, Issue 3 , 2022 , Pages 1823-1837 ; 21682216 (ISSN) Mohsenipour, R ; Fathi Jegarkandi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This article focuses on the robust D-stabilization analysis of fractional-order control systems where each of the system and the controller may be of fractional order. The coefficients of the system are considered as complex linear functions of interval uncertain parameters, so this article deals with fractional-order polytopic systems. First, a necessary and sufficient condition is introduced for the robust D-stabilization of the closed-loop control system based on the zero exclusion condition and the value set concept. Then, the geometric pattern of the value set of the characteristic polynomial is obtained analytically using the exposed vertices. Second, a function is presented to check...

Variable speed wind turbine power control: A comparison between multiple MPPT based methods

    Abstract
Reducing the renewable energy costs is necessary for the competition with the fossil energies and control strategies have great impact on the efficiency of wind machines. In the wind turbine industry, a practical approach is to maximize the energy capture of a wind machine by optimizing the power coefficient in the under-rated situations. In this paper, with the main objective of maximizing the energy capture in the second region, four different control strategies are compared in the presence of uncertainties. The proposed control methods are compared based on their power capture and robustness against probable uncertainties in the structural and environmental parameters. A two-mass...

    Abstract
The widespread presence of contingent generation, when coupled with the resulting volatility of the chronological net-load (i.e., the difference between stochastic generation and uncertain load) in today's modern electricity markets, engender the significant operational risks of an uncertain sufficiency of flexible energy capacity. In this article, we address several operational flexibility concerns that originate from the increase in generation variability captured within a security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC) formulation in smart grids. To quantitatively assess the power grid operational flexibility capacity, we first introduce two reference operation strategies based on a two-stage...

Reducing conservatism in robust stability analysis of fractional-order-polytopic systems

    Abstract
This paper studies the robust stability of the fractional-order (FO) LTI systems with polytopic uncertainty. Generally, the characteristic polynomial of the system dynamic matrix is not an affine function of the uncertain parameters. Consequently, the robust stability of the uncertain system cannot be evaluated by well-known approaches including LMIs or exposed edges theorem. Here, an over-parameterization technique is developed to convert the main characteristic polynomial into a set of local over-parameterized characteristic polynomials (LOPCPs). It is proved that the robust stability of LOPCPs implies the robust stability of the uncertain system. Then, an algorithm is proposed to explore...

    Abstract
A multi-objective economic-statistical design is aimed in this article for simple linear profiles. In this design, the interval between two successive sampling intervals, the sample size and the number of adjustment points alongside, the parameters of the monitoring scheme are determined such that not only the implementation cost is minimized, but also the profile exhibits desired statistical performances. To this aim, three objective functions are considered in the multi-objective optimization model of the problem. The Lorenzen–Vance cost function is used to model the implementation cost as the first objective function to be minimized. The second objective function maximizes the in-control...

A framework for prescribed-time control design via time-scale transformation

    Abstract
This letter presents a unified framework for the design of prescribed-time controllers under time-varying input and state constraints for normal-form unknown nonlinear systems with uncertain input gain. The proposed approach is based on a time-domain mapping method by which any infinite-time system can be corresponded to a prescribed-time system and vice versa. It is shown that the design of a constrained nonasymptotic prescribed-time controller can be reduced to the asymptotic control design for an associated constrained infinite-time system. Faà di Bruno's formula and Bell polynomials are used for a constructive representation of the associated infinite-time system. The presented results...
