Nanofluid flooding in a randomized heterogeneous porous media and investigating the effect of capillary pressure and diffusion on oil recovery factor

    , Article Journal of Molecular Liquids ; Volume 320 , December , 2020 Hemmat Esfe, M ; Esfandeh, S ; Hosseinizadeh, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
In the initial recovery stage, only 5 to 15% of hydrocarbons can be extracted from oil reservoirs, so it is necessary to supply energy from an external reservoir or to use advanced solutions to increase oil recovery. By using secondary recovery method and flooding, greater amount of oil can be extracted. In this study, a new procedure of flooding using nanofluid was simulated. The nanofluid and source rock were modeled as a single phase and heterogeneous porous media, respectively. The geometry was considered as a two-dimensional rectangular area. Two phase Darcy equations and mass transfer equations were utilized to simulate this process. Moreover, the effects of different volume fractions...

    Abstract
Diurnal volume changes is one of the main factors influencing socket fit in trans-tibial prosthesis and causing pressure problem issues. Embedded bladder liners have been recently a potential approach to deal with this problem. The aim of this technical note was to introduce a new transtibial silicone liner designed based on hybrid socket theory. To make expandability in the liner, an integrated wax structure was constructed over the selected areas of the positive model and then removed after lamination process. In addition, a mechanical system with manual control was designed to fit the liner with the residual limb volume by pumping the water in or out of the liner through connec-tive...

Mechanics of carbon-coated silicon nanowire via second strain gradient theory

    , Article European Journal of Mechanics, A/Solids ; Volume 81 , 2020 Ojaghnezhad, F ; Shodja, H. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
The phenomena of surface, interface, and size effects are the determinative factors in the prediction of the mechanical behavior of multiphase nanowires. The interatomic bond lengths and charge density distribution associated with the surface and interface layers of the relaxed configuration of such nanostructures, in the absence of any external loadings, differ from those of the bulk remarkably. Second strain gradient theory due to its competency in capturing the above mentioned effects will be employed to examine the relaxation of carbon-coated silicon nanowire, carbon nanoshell, and silicon nanowire. Using this theory their effective Young's modulus will also be estimated. To this end,...

Ring-like laser spot welding of Ti grade2 to AAl3105-O using AlSiMg filler metal

    , Article Optik ; Volume 206 , 2020 Shehab, A. A ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Torkamany, M. J ; Fakouri Hasanabadi, M ; Alali, M ; Mahmoud, A. K ; Abass, M. H ; Kokabi, A. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier GmbH  2020
    Abstract
A pulsed Nd:YAG laser welding of 1 mm thick Ti (grade 2) to 0.5 mm thick AA3105-O was performed by a ring-like spot joining. A 0.15 mm thick Al-12Si-2.5 Mg alloy was used as a filler metal. Intermetallic compounds of Ti3Al, Ti2Al, TiAl, Ti(Al,Si)3 and Mg2Si were observed respectively from Ti towards Al sides at the fusion zone. Si and Mg increased the strength of the Al re-solidified zone near the Ti-Al interface because of their easy dissolution in the Al. Exothermic effect of the Mg addition resulted in porosity in the welding zone. Joint strength of up to 98% of the Al base metal was obtained, which was much 14% higher than that achieved by autogenous welding. © 2019 Elsevier GmbH

    Abstract
Dielectric gratings (DGs) have recently been introduced as a new platform for guiding dielectric-based geometrically-induced surface plasmons (SPs) called spoof SPs (SSPs). In this paper, we report on the modal analysis of a metal-clad DG waveguide and compare its performance with other counterparts including the dielectric image guide (IG) and the metal grating (MG) waveguide. The proposed DG waveguide is made up of a periodic array of high-resistivity silicon (HR-Si) pillars on a metal plate with a metal cladding at a proper distance above the structure. By modal analysis of 2D and 3D structures, we show that the presence of the metal cladding enhances the modal field confinement without...

    Abstract
Cell-laden hydrogel microcapsules enable the high-throughput production of cell aggregates, which are relevant for three-dimensional tissue engineering and drug screening applications. However, current microcapsule production strategies are limited by their throughput, multistep protocols, and limited amount of compatible biomaterials. We here present a single-step process for the controlled microfluidic production of single-core microcapsules using enzymatic outside-in cross-linking of tyramine-conjugated polymers. It was hypothesized that a physically, instead of the conventionally explored biochemically, controlled enzymatic cross-linking process would improve the reproducibility,...

Matrix-vector multiplications can be accomplished in parallel and with low energy consumption due to intrinsic parallelism and low-loss of silicon metalines. The proposed on-chip whole-passive fully-optical meta-neural-network is very compact and works at the speed of light, with very low energy consumption. Various complex functions that are performed by digital neural networks can be...
